My BAR is a Mk1 (I think) Made in 1969. It’s a 300 win mag. It’s not a gun I take to the range and shoot a box or 2 of ammo through it. Just too much...
I ran mostly federal ammo in my blr I had. No issues.
We just put a vortex diamondback HP 4x16x42 deadhold BDC on our old savage 340 in 222rem. I went with a side mount from Hammers. We’re very happy...
New gun to you? What’s the history of it?

Serial number on my mid 80’s bl22 is on the side of the receiver. The year of manufacture can be determined from the serial number.

I’ve got a ‘69 BAR in 300 win mag. It doesn’t have bolt/lock hold open feature. I suspect the new models today have that.
Do yourself a favour. Buy yourself a good reloading book, based on the bullets your using. It will be worth every nickel.
I’ve never had a problem with accuracy with my bar. If you have one 30-06 hunting rifle already, why did you need another one?
My old BAR v1 300 WM shoots and knocks down the deer and moose I point it at. That’s what matters to me. It’s not a gun I take to the range however.
