As promised here are some pictures comparing my X prefix guns. According to S/V and this thread the only year the X prefix guns were unmarked was 1947:

However I have seen a 1948 gun that was an unmarked sweet and it had Browning Arms Company St Louis Mo on the left hand side of the receiver. The only thing I can come up with is that it was a left over receiver?

looking at the mechanics of the action i started polishing things inside and greasing them thinking friction may be an issue or burrs from the newly manufactured gun, and it cycled more smoothly but still had failures.
I knew Japanese Auto5 barrels are a bit thicker, therefore area capable of being threaded for screw-in chokes, and are permissible to shoot steel shot through, but this guy claims when production moved to Miroku, the magazine tube was coated with a coating (teflon or similar?) that was slippery, so a person wouldn't have to lube it (with two drops of 30 weight oil rubbed between the...
I looked it over, and after finding no apparent issues, struck a deal ( did I mention a DEAL!?) shook hands and took it home. He said he bought it new back in 1980 (?) and shot geese with it until lead shot was outlawed.
