I have made an honest on long effort to ID my little Browning SA 22. Found it this weekend at a gun show in a rack beside a Savage .22 Hornet Model 23D. I bought both on a really good deal.

So here is the serial number - I can't make tails nor heads out this number no matter what list or chart I look at. I hate to admit such ineptness but it is what it is.

So can someone help me out here ...

    Receiver stamped ... 06736RN146 ... Made in Japan ...

Many thanks in advance for any and all help ...

Thank you Sir very much ... now that I see my correct date I was able to decipher the chart. Could not figure out that both numbers came fro the same single line letter chart.

    I appreciate your help.

I am new to the forum and have a similar SN question on my recently purchased little side-loading Belgian-made Browning SA-22. I am trying to determine its year of manufacture. I have visited the Browning website for SA-22 SNs, but my SN does not seem to match any of Browning's charts for SA-22 SNs. I have tried to attach some photos that would hopefully help shed some light on my question but have not yet been successful in doing that. I will keep trying to figure out how to do it. The SN appears to be 4183980 and is located at the bottom of the barrel just forward of the forearm stock. There is also a separate unusual T stamped on the bottom of the barrel a couple of inches forward of the adjustment ring. While the SN appears to be 4183980, it could be 4T83980 if the 1 is a distorted/poorly-stamped T, and that would mean year 1964 per Browning's SN chart for SA-22s. I don't know what the remaining 83980 would represent....the 83,980th gun manufactured that year? That seems like a lot. The gun has a folding leaf rear sight with one large screw for elevation, and I have read that the folding rear sights started in 1961.

As I said, I am new to the forum, and any help in determining the year of manufacture for this little gun would be much appreciated. I will do my best to get the photos uploaded. In the meantime thank you for any thoughts or recommendations.

If it indeed is a 1964 manufacture I would expect a 4 digit number following the 4T. Not sure about the zero following the 8??

I was finally able to figure out how to post images with Imgur. Here are 8 photos that I hope will shed some light on the year of manufacture for my Belgium SA-22.

Thanks, Longshanx. Four digits following the T would make more sense. My only thought is that the 1 is a poorly stamped T, but I don't know that for sure and have no clue about the rest of the numbers. If anything in the photos above gives any additional insight, I would love to know. Any additional thoughts that come to mind will be appreciated.
