Im hoping to get some realistic opinions on the value of this standard 12g, full choke a5 mfg 1937. Its in incredible shape, i think. Thanks in advance rgrigutis
That is in amazing condition. Far as value, think that’s a hard one to answer. I have noticed the prices going up, with that said some people want to get in on the shirt tail of someone’s emotions or whatever you wanna call it, and they think just because it’s an auto 5 it’s worth some ridiculous price. It’s not for me to judge, but you never know if they sell them or not. Some put a high price cause they really don’t wanna sell. So back to your question. I think in my mind it’s worth at least 1500.00. Could be more with a close inspection and depending on what options it has.
Thanks ranger. i got it about 15 years ago from a farmer along with a standard 16 w/ poly choke for 500 if i remember right. That 12 was in the shape its in now except for the wood. The original finish was flaking off and i refinished it and did a deep disassemble on the whole thing withnew springs. Anywaythanks for your input.
In my collecting A5s for the last 25 years, and traveling around the US, I can say with certainty pricing A5s is definitely a regional thing. I frequent central Illinois to visit family every year or so, and in every state in between ( I drive rather than fly) I always stop at as many gun shops as possible. I actually plan an extra day of travel for just that! In addition to that, I travel the PNW a lot. I have close friends in Oregon, Washington, Kalifornia, etc. They all help me in my quest for A5s. They also hit the local internet sales sites/ ads. With all that being said, an A5 as shown above (which in fact is really nice for a 1937!) in my area would bring $400-500. I have bought several in near that condition for $300-400. In central Illinois, at a large gun shop I saw a 1935 in no where near the condition that one is, and they wanted $1000. In Omaha, two years ago, at some shop there was a 1928 in really good condition with a $400 tag on it. In short-----it depends on where your market is.
I know what you mean! I’m surprised at every turn. Is it a 300 buck gun or 1500! I’m trying to sell a polish radom vis 35 w/slot after seeing them listed for 2000+. Auction houses have offered 1100/1200.? Are people actually buying these guns at auction and not doing their own search? I’ve listed the Radom at 1600 w/ no response. Back in the safe I guess. Sorry for the rant!
Beautiful gun looks great but the stock has a gap at the receiver which usually means the bolt holding the stock has worn its hole and is letting the stock move when shooting. This situation will break the stock eventually, so if it moves please have it repaired ( super easy to bed stock hole with epoxy) before that nice gun is damaged. The gun is worth 1500.00 if a guy wants a classic 12 that weighs that much.
