Good evening all, I recently acquired a BAR in 280 Rem, circa 1989 if my numbers are correct. I live in a lead free state and would like to hunt with this. Are any of you loading lead free for this gun? The only semi auto i load formula are various caliber AR platforms, the rest are bolt guns. Im concerned with pressure, but also being able to drive a lead free pill fast enough to expand at distance...maybe upto 400 yards or so depending on accuracy I can obtain. I've used a ton of barnes bullets and few hammers, just looking for real world experience. Thanks in advance!
The only other suggestion is copper. I used to do some copper bullets in the military but not for that caliber. Just the cost of the equipment will make it not worth it. I got to spend someone else's money during that time, so no one cared about cost. You used to be able to buy copper bullets, guess you still can. I would go that route. Yes, I believe 400 yards is doable. Pressure will be higher, but you should be able to find a safe load. Lots of info out there, just be careful who you believe.
