I have, what i believe to be anyway, a 1958 26" skeet 12ga. It has the markings **$. The serial# is throwing me for a curve. It reads 62xxx S6, only under the release. on the take down lever it reads matching serial # 62xxx S. any help would be great to figure out what this S and S6 mean
  2. Hello Andy, and welcome to the Superposed Forum!
Your gun was made in 1966 and is Skeet choked. In 1962, Browning began using a letter code to date their Superposed guns. S was for the 12 gauge guns, and V was for 20 gauge. Any Superposed from 1962 through 1969 has an S and the last number of the year, so S6 equals 1966. By 1969, they added a two digit year code, thus S69 means 1969; the same rules apply for 20 gauges with the letter V. The takedown lever should also say S6; maybe the 6 was lightly struck, or maybe they forgot to put it on.

The $ means Skeet choke. Your chambers should each have a choke mark. **$ means Skeet.
