Hi Everyone, I have a Twentyweight and the buttstock fits rather tight on the action spring tube. Is there a lube or anything else that can help with making it a little easier to remove? Thanx for any suggestions. Sent from my Commodore 64 running Windows 95
Giday Crossfire have not seen you around here in a while. Sounds like a bit of wood swelling or a super slight clearance/misalignment on the spring tube that’s enough to make it tight. One trick that might work worth considering depending on how handy and inclined you are. . Get 14” of 1/4 round steel and put a 3/4” deep hacksaw cut down the middle of one end. Cut a strip of 120 grit paper 3/4” wide put an end in the cut and scroll it tight around your mandrel to close the diameter of the hole and then run it up and down the stock hole on your drill couple of times using some care and caution. That might buy you the couple of thou clearance your chasing to stop the binding. I have also heard about rubbing some bees or candle wax on the spring tube after this as it helps seal the wood and assists with maintaining the spring tube rust free. You still packing your pieces on your bike ?
Good memory! Yeah, I'm still taking them out with the bike. The tube is rust-free so I'll get some beeswax and try that first. I didn't want to put oil on the tube for fear it may swell the wood. My Twelvette doesn't have the bind that the Twentyweight does so I thought I would ask here. And the weather is starting to warm up a little so that means more bike/range time. Yeah all good down under. Had to weather a cyclone (hurricane) couple weeks back that trashed and flooded my local shooting haunts so be slim pickings of places to go for little while.
