I have a 1966 t bolt 22 rimfire I have refinished the stock with Tru Oil . Is this a safe way to seal the stock protecting the metal from rusting due to the salt wood ? When removing the butt plate screws you can see the effect of the salt wood on the butt plate screws .
Art Isaacson, the renowned Browning gunsmith, says there is no way to adequately seal a salt wood stock. I suspect that you may get away with it if you keep after it. But who wants a gun with cancer?
