Hi guys thanks for accepting. My father in law has a nice low serial FN Safari .308 Winchester that he's looking to sell. I'm thinking its maybe a 59. SN LXXXX as stamped on bolt and barrel. Stock was broken in a fall and replaced with OEM stock from a place in Edmonton mid 90's. He's not sure where to price it. I'm trying to negotiate a family discount haha but in fairness I feel like this might have collector status. Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers.
According to this: http://www.nramuseum.org/media/940941/serialization-date of manufacture.pdf there was no letter prefix before 1963. Between 1963-68, there was a single digit preceding the letter to denote the year. Beginning in 1969 the prefix consisted of the letter, then the first two digits for the year. This last system was in effect through 1976.
Thanks for the reply. From what I found I was under the impression that the L designated Safari grade, vs the higher end versions. http://www.joesalter.ca/products/browning-hp-rifle-in-270-win-caliber This one in the museum has a higher SN and is stated as a 59, so that's where I'm curious. Keeping in mind the replaced stock and used condition..... http://www.nramuseum.org/guns/the-g...browning-fn-high-power-bolt-action-rifle.aspx
